2013-11-14 Royat-Chamalières Opening speech - Christian Corne, Président de l’Association Européenne des Villes Thermales Historiques (EHTTA)

First of all, Christian Corne thanks the towns of Royat and Chamalières for welcoming us, and for having, a year ago almost to the day, agreed to respond, along with the Route of Spa Towns in the Massif Central and the European Network of Historic Thermal Towns, EHTTA,replica watches as well as eight other towns and cities, to the latest call for offers from the European Commission’s Culture Programme.

He mentions that the “Cafés” concept has been taken up as a consequence of the informal meetings in the 18th and 19th centuries. Christian Corne says that this story is told in chapters, from Café of Europe to Café of Europe. Everything began in Enghien with the digitalisation. Then, there was the Café of Europe in Ourense about the sacred and legendary aspects of our towns and cities. Afterwards, Christian Corne, referring to the Café in Royat-Chamalières, speaks about the importance of archives, prints, writings that help to understand present.

He finishes his speech saying that the Cafés are also forward-looking places, from which the European Commission is awaiting suggestions for Europe 2020.

Also, he says that the Cafés are public spaces that allow us to examine how towns were able to innovate in the past.
